The speed run

I think I've found my quick run: 3.75 miles (ok, ok... I should really make this at least 4), with a big hill and a little steep hill. Since tomorrow's a day off (or super easy day), I figured I'd try and see how fast my legs can go. Evidently they're doing alright so far. I managed to crank this guy out tonight in 30mins 2secs, or 8min/mile on the dot.  Here's the run!

At long last, I don't have to drive 30 miles when my schedule says "find a hill and run up it".

3 in a Row (Don't call it a streak)

One of my favorite things about gmap-pedometer is the elevation mapping (left-hand side "Elevation: Large"). I would be utterly lost without it, and it is my post-run guide after wandering through the Jura looking for big fun hills. Tonight's run was strictly a moonlight affair, 4 miles, nothing fancy, a couple hills, but nothing to write home about:

There was a nice section towards the end with about a 4.9% grade and a gentle slope to take it home. I'm nowhere near the 30% grades we're supposed to be getting, but man that part will be fun to train for.

Weekend Runs

Dan's no nonsense mountain marathon training blog (Days 1 and 2!)

Since signing up for the Jungfrau marathon this week, the realization has now washed over me that I need to get into gear on the quick. For the official marathon training (20 week schedule I'm thinking), I'll be following my favorite number one basic plan and just spice it up with plenty of hills and give myself an additional 4 weeks to try and get ready for this sucker. We'll see how this goes. In the meantime, my plan is to make sure I don't kill myself during the official training, so lots of little runs with some nice hills!

Here's the run from Day 1 (Feb. 19th):

6.1 miles
Highlights: Nice big Feigeres hill, featuring a 8.5% grade over almost 2km.

And the run from Day 2 (Feb. 20th):

4 miles with a lovely 9.2% grade over 0.85km (run in reverse!)

Here's to a very hilly adventure!
